INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE:
1. Select a suitable support brace (Standard or Short) and loosen the straps.
2. Place the support brace under the posterior side of the patient’s hand and fasten it securely. The Short version will be fastened with the distal strap placed around the hand distal to the thumb. (The distal end of the device is the narrow end.) The Standard version will be fastened with the distal strap placed around the hand distal to the thumb and proximal strap placed proximally to the catheterization site. (The distal end of the device is the narrow end.)
3. Remove the sterile Compression Pad from the package. (Pads sterilized with Gamma) Note: Take care not to contaminate the sterile compression surface before it is applied to the puncture site.
4. Snap the Compression Pad onto the strap and position it immediately over the puncture site. Note: If facility protocol requires gauze to be used during the compression process, place a folded 4 x 4 gauze pad against the Compression Pad before positioning it over the puncture site.
5. Apply moderate pressure by fixing the free end of the remaining strap to the posterior outer side of the support brace.
6. Remove the sheath with one hand and hold the Compression Pad with the other hand. This method allows an immediate manual increase of pressure if necessary to control bleeding. Note: Minimum pressure to achieve hemostasis is preferred.
7. When hemostasis is obtained, check the radial artery pulse distal to the Compression Pad. Note: Pressure should be adjusted until both hemostasis and distal radial artery pulses are obtained.
8. Maintain pressure until total hemostasis has been obtained. Note: Initial pressure should be maintained approximately 30 minutes. Then the pressure should be loosened every 30 minutes until the compression device can be removed.
9. After total hemostasis has been achieved, remove the device and dispose of it properly
